A gathering sponsored by civil society and grassroots organizations was held May 22–23 at the Double Tree by Hilton in Nairobi in an effort to gain support for the Climate Change (Amendment) Bill 2023.
The meeting clarified the bill's provisions and offered a supportive setting and a platform where participants' opinions could be captured. This was done in an effort to give the majority, if not all, of the grassroots voices a voice and consideration in the revised measure.
The discussion of the bill's advocacy strategies and political influence was covered in equal measure.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of Kenya soon to host the Africa Climate Summit in early September 2023, where we believe the President intends to sign the Act before the global summit takes off.
This was a critical meeting with far-reaching consequences for the future of Kenya and specifically in aligning its climate change policies, action and impact.
