On March 16 and 17, 2023, at the Ibis Hotel, Westlands, Nairobi, Kenya, a meeting bringing together civic actors, grassroots activists, and advocates striving to bring fairness, equity, and transparency to the mining sector value chains in the East Africa Community (EAC) was held.
The gathering served as a participatory, consultative, and cross-learning space to strengthen group advocacy efforts on a variety of policy issues and their connections; national and regional laws, regulatory frameworks, and EAC institutions.
Some of the themes discussed during the forum were the overlaps or conflicts in ensuring human rights in national, regional, and international trade and value chains within the mining sector.
Angelei & Company advocates represented by Joshua Angelei, played a key role in the engagements by providing insights to both state and non-state actors on themes that were addressed in the forum.
